Product fit and internal layout

Custom Packaging Inserts

Custom packaging inserts to organise products inside retail, gift and shipping boxes. Discuss paperboard dividers, corrugated supports and other suitable materials as part of the complete packaging project.

A specification built around your product

An insert locates the product inside the box and shapes how customers see and remove it. The correct design depends on product geometry, weight, vulnerable surfaces and the packing sequence. Evaluate the insert with the intended box: changing the cavity layout or material can change the required internal dimensions.

Work directly with HuaJia Packaging on a clear packaging brief. The approved quotation and physical sample define the material, construction and production requirements.

Compare insert approaches

Paperboard inserts

Folded supports and dividers can organise lighter products and accessories. Consider assembly time, visible surfaces and whether the cut edges could mark the product.

Corrugated inserts

Corrugated partitions and supports can separate items or add structural support. Confirm orientation, product contact points and performance inside the loaded outer box.

Moulded pulp options

A shaped pulp insert can follow a product profile. Material, tooling, dimensional variation and suitable production quantity need a separate feasibility review. Availability should be confirmed for the project.

Before requesting a quote

Make the specification clear

Compare like-for-like packaging. A useful quotation states the construction, material, print coverage, quantity and delivery basis. Confirm minimum order quantity, sample costs and lead time for the actual project.

  • Product geometry
Supply actual samples or accurate dimensions for every item. Include cables, manuals and accessories in the internal layout.
  • Retention and removal
Explain where movement must be limited and where the customer needs finger access. A tight fit should not make removal difficult.
  • Contact surfaces
Identify fragile finishes, sharp edges and sensitive components. Check whether the proposed insert can rub, scratch or put pressure on them.
  • Packing labour
Confirm whether inserts arrive flat or assembled. Test the loading sequence and count any separate components needed for one complete pack.

Approve fit, handling and the whole pack

Place the actual products in the sample insert. Close the box and check clearance above the contents. Lift each item out, then repeat the intended packing sequence. Assess movement in the assembled pack and any marks on the product after handling. Protection depends on the complete system and suitable testing; an insert alone cannot establish transit performance.

Record any agreed changes in the final specification. Keep the approved sample as the production reference and confirm the inspection requirements before the order is placed.

Questions before ordering

Can you design an insert before the box is final?

The two should be developed together. The insert needs working clearance and material thickness inside the box. Approve the combined dimensions before final artwork and production.

Is moulded pulp always the best choice?

No single material is best for every product. Compare geometry, protection needs, tooling, assembly, quantity and end-of-life requirements. Avoid making recyclability claims without checking the finished construction and local collection rules.

What is needed to quote a custom insert?

Share product samples or accurate dimensions, weight, box dimensions, order quantity and the intended packing method. Tooling, material suitability and delivery format must be confirmed in the quote.
